"I Didn't Know Help Existed for Fathers"

English Translation

My name is Santana Hernandez and I am a single father of two children, Jocelyn (10) and Henry (5). I first found out about Children’s Bureau at the Corbin Family Resource through Social Services. I had to face the fact that I was going to be raising my children on my own due to domestic violence in the home. I was introduced to a family advocate from Children’s Bureau who guided me and helped me and my children through some difficult times. I didn’t think I could make it on my own as a parent. The advocate was able to refer me to family therapy. I was then offered parenting classes and I accepted the help. I am presently working with an in-home parent educator and the sessions have really helped me improve my parenting skills. Before, I felt I was alone and that the services were available only for mothers and not fathers, like me. Now, I’m aware that the services exist and that they are available to anyone who is in a situation like mine. I am thankful to Children’s Bureau for their support. I want to encourage anyone who needs help to look for help because there is help. Thanks to Children’s Bureau, I am where I am today.
