Magnolia Place Network Partners

The Magnolia Place Network is still in its developmental stages. As such, there are numerous agencies in addition to the ones listed below with which we have begun conversations and planning regarding Magnolia Place partnership, and who we anticipate growing into members of the Network over the upcoming months as we continue to refine the Network’s joint vision and membership. To name just a few, here are the Network Partners to date:

- St. John’s Well Child and Family Center – St. John’s Well Child and Family Center was founded as a small, pediatric clinic in downtown LA over 40 years ago, SJWCFC now operates a network of federally qualified community and school–based health centers, including one IN Magnolia Place, that are designed to support the health and development of families in densely populated Los Angeles neighborhoods. Full service medical and dental clinic from prenatal through adults.
- Public Counsel – Public Counsel has been a highly–regarded agent of change and an effective legal advocate for low–income children, families and communities throughout Los Angeles County. We have deep, broad, and extensive relationships and collaborations with innumerable community and governmental organizations. In particular, our Early Care & Education (ECE) Law Project has just completed a two–year consultancy with First 5 LA for its ECE Workforce Development Initiative.
- Center for Non–Violent Education and Parenting – CNVEP advocates and teaches nonviolent child raising philosophy, and has recently developed the “IT TAKES A COMMUNITY” curriculum for DMH. CNVEP services the greater Los Angeles community with classes, trainings, workshops, presentations, festivals and conferences; both at it’s Echo Park Location and in schools, home visits and Agencies. Services are available in English and Spanish. Teachings are for adults and appropriate for adults in relationship to children of any age.
- Occidental College – The Center for Food and Justice (CFJ) approach combines working with and helping empower children, families, and other community residents to be able to identify core issues in their community and schools, develop innovative programs, and identify appropriate intervention strategies to improve community and school environments.
- Eviction Defense Network (EDN) – The Eviction Defense Network (EDN) is a network of trial lawyers, advocates and tenants defending the right to safe, secure and affordable housing. EDN works through both affirmative and defensive legal work to ensure that families of Los Angeles County have the most optimal, healthiest home environments supporting child development and safe and strong communities.
- PACE – Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment (PACE) was founded in 1976 to address the employment and job training needs of the Asian Pacific Islander communities. With an initial grant from the City of Los Angeles, PACE was created to offer job training and job placement services to its constituent communities. PACE also offers HEADSTART preschool at Magnolia Place, plus job development and small business assistance referral.
- County of Los Angeles/CEO Services Integration Branch – DPSS, DCFS, Child Support, DMH and LA County Helps; screening and navigation assistance for all county programs; universal client database infrastructure; VITA; demonstration site for services integration and policy development.
- Department of Public Health Nurse–Family Partnership (NFP) Program and MCAH – Program for high risk first–time pregnant young women less than 18 weeks pregnant; provides in–home support, training, coaching, and encouragement for 2 ½ years to improve birth outcomes, child development, and maternal life course using evidence–based model. Ability to provide workshops and training relating to perinatal health.
- Department of Mental Health/It Takes a Community Initiative – Framework for collaboration that provides a philosophy and principles by which the community members and organizations will build productive and uplifting relationships and a common culture that supports comprehensive progress for the community.
- Children’s Bureau – Training and support for unlicensed child care providers (FFN), parent and child (birth to age 5) enrichment activities, kinship care, parenting classes, in–home Birth and Beyond family support, child and family therapy, licensed Co–Operative Preschool for children 3–5, Kindergarten transition programs, Promotoras, financial literacy education, informal community building activities, foster care and adoptions.
- Esperanza Community Housing Corporation ( Health Homes Project; El Mercado De La Paloma) – Housing, Health, and Advocacy organization focusing on the Figueroa Corridor and neighborhoods surrounding USC. Trains Promotoras to provide employable skills to community members. Advocates for tenants’ rights in partnership with SAJE and St. John’s.
- Peace Over Violence – is a dynamic social services/social change organization with extensive experience in community mobilization, leadership training, policy advocacy, research, and outreach. POV’s mission is to build healthy relationships, families and communities free from sexual, domestic and interpersonal violence.
- People in Progress – Substance abuse outpatient treatment and inpatient rehabilitation.
- Casey Family Programs – local initiative focusing on child abuse prevention as part of larger goal to reduce kids in care by 50%, which includes Powerful Families financial literacy and parent advocacy curriculum, community needs survey, and more.
- WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) – Pre– and post–natal support for low–income mothers and their children (up to age 5), including nutritious foods, breast–feeding/lactation support, and education.
- Los Angeles Community Adult School – Early childhood education courses, enabling parents and community members to become certified early childhood educators for infant, toddler and preschool care, in home environments or center–based programs. Also provides ESL.
- LA Trade Tech College/Community Development Technologies Center – Vocational classes and community development initiatives.
- SAJE (Strategic Actions for a Just Economy) – Provides living wage jobs via its relationship with the Staples Center Community Benefits Agreement. Advocates for tenants’ rights in partnership with Esperanza and St. John’s, as well as via grass–roots community activism.
- Local Workforce Centers and Job Training Initiatives – Multiple workforce centers serve Magnolia’s catchment area; through these workforce centers and additional industry–specific job training initiatives, Magnolia Place is connected to comprehensive job readiness, training, and placement support.
- LAFLA (Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles) – Provides comprehensive, free legal support for legally documented community members at their nearby center, as a supplemental resource available beyond the onsite service providers. Includes eviction defense, immigration, special education, and domestic violence restraining orders.
- West Adams Preparatory High School/MentorLA – Adult education site for the community, community programs for families and students, and referral source of pregnant and parenting teens.
- Magnolia Elementary School – Local elementary school within several blocks, partners in outreach, ESL provision, and school–readiness transitions.
- Norwood Elementary School Healthy Start Collaborative – Local elementary school with strong parent, staff, and community collaborative.
- DCFS Prevention Initiative Demonstration Project Partners – collaboration between Children’s Institute International, El Centro del Pueblo, ACORN, Caracen, Chinatown Service Center, and CleanSlate to provide comprehensive services in 90006 and other zip codes.
- Children’s Planning Council SPA 4 – Community outreach and community capacity building, including training and support for Magnolia Place Network regarding community engagement.
- Child Abuse Prevention California – Provides training and Americorps support for family intervention and support programs.
- Free Arts for Abused Children – Provides family art projects for young children and their families in the form of weekly sessions and special participatory art festival days.
- Centro Latino de Educacion Popular – Provides literacy education and computer education to Spanish speaking and other non–English speaking immigrants
